Myanmar Observer Media Group [MOMG] was founded in 2011 with aims to deeply observe challenging issues of Myanmar, to strongly encourage policy change through in-depth and investigative stories, and to vastly improve journalism skills among local journalists through trainings and workshops.
The first edition of Mawkun came out in August 2012 after the censorship board was abolished. The magazine is published in Myanmar Language and its normal size is around 120 pages.
NICHE IN THE FIELD
Mawkun magazine is the first, and one and only investigative and in-depth magazine in Myanmar. The monthly magazines prime target group are policy and decision makers.

Mawkun has drawn praises and appreciations from its target audience which includes policy-makers, decision-makers, civil society actors, intellectuals and stakeholders in every sector. The first publication came out right after the censorship board was abolished in August 2012, and since then nine editions to date have been published.
NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS AND CONTRIBUTION
Mawkun magazine has won two awards to date. The first prize was given for a feature published in October 2012 as to how LGBTs are living in a hidden community and how their rights are denied. The award was given by LGBT rights groups based in Myanmar.
The second award was given for a feature published in September 2013 on “The increase of suicide among Myanmar teenagers”. The award “The Best In-depth Reporting” was given by Yangon Journalism School and Pyoe Pin group.
